I was just swapping emails with Andy, who first came into our photography studio in Seattle a couple of years ago. Back then she was just getting done with her ordeal of dealing with breast cancer and decided to celebrate the occasion with some wonderful photographs.
Recently she was just asked by the folks at Susan G Komen to write up a little bit about her experience and why her photography session was important to her. They are updating their “Finding Your Way to Wellness’ Resource Guide and she is hoping they use this photo to help women be strong. She has just celebrated her 14th wedding anniversary realizes that her battle with cancer makes every anniversary and birthday a little more special. Thank you for the honor of working with you Andy, it was a special session.
Now in her own words. ”Looking back, I can’t believe it’s been over 2 years since I found a lump in my breast. What started as some apprehension ended up being a slippery slope of mammograms, ultrasounds, biopsies and bone scans and ended up as a double mastectomy with a good dollop of chemo to boot. When my friend suggested getting my picture taken I thought she was crazy – who wants to look at a bald woman? But I told the photographer that I wanted the photo to show STRENGTH, as this disease wasn’t taking me down! Every time I look at this picture it reminds me of the battle I fought and won!”
